MORE than 50 Labour members from across the region took to the streets to officially launch the party's Warrington election campaign on Saturday.

Young Labour members from around the north west joined councillors and candidates at the Golden Gates before speaking to residents in Westbrook, Stockton Heath, Chapelford, Great Sankey and Bewsey and Whitecross.

The campaign launch from both constituencies was backed by council leader Terry O'Neill.

Volunteers, including Warrington South constituency spokesman Nick Bent, carried out canvassing sessions throughout the morning and afternoon.

Mr Bent said: "I'm very proud of our team of candidates and other volunteers, who braved the rain to offer help to residents on their doorsteps and to hear their views - this is local politics at its best."

Bewsey and Whitecross candidate Tom Jennings organised the event and admits he was elated by the response.

"I was absolutely overwhelmed by the positivity of everyone – it proved just how much Labour are determined to make a difference in this town," he said.

"My day was spent asking residents what issues and concerns they need help with now. I'm determined to get the best deal for Bewsey and Whitecross in a Labour-run Town Hall."

The all-out elections will take place on May 5.
