RESIDENTS have taken on half marathons, bid for an extra day of holiday and sold Valentine’s Day gifts to raise money for Warrington Disability Partnership as they celebrate their 25th birthday.

Their 25th Anniversary Legacy Appeal aims to raise £150,000 to support employment opportunities for young disabled people in the town.

Individuals have been pledging to raise £25 for the charity, small business and organisations are donating £250 and corporate supporters will fundraise £2,500 for the charity.

Fundraising efforts so far include Warrington Running Club’s half marathon taking in the Great Orme in Llandudno, in which runners pushed two of their injured colleagues around in a wheelchair.

Elsewhere, staff at the Warrington Mail Centre raffled off an extra day of holiday for WDP and resident Lynn Crichton has been busy making and selling Valentine’s Day gifts – including silk flowers, chocolate bouquets and sock cupcakes.

Janis Williams, fundraising and community engagement lead at Warrington Disability Partnership, said: “Everyone is excited at the amount of interest being shown by the local community, including individuals, families, and small and large organisations and businesses who have pledged to fundraise for our 25th Anniversary Legacy Appeal.

“We have just received delivery of our colourful 25th anniversary collection boxes that can be used to collect loose change – they are available from any of our sites including shopmobility, MILS in Golden Square Shopping Centre, the Disability Information Point in Warrington Market or the Centre for Independent Living in Beaufort Street.”

Meanwhile, construction company CPUK, who are constructing the new temporary market, has signed up to sponsor the 25th Anniversary Dinner at the Park Royal Hotel in Stretton on October 14.

Tickets are £25 including a drink upon arrival, a three-course meal and live entertainment.
