RISLEY Day Nursery, which was slammed as ‘inadequate’ by Ofsted inspectors in August, has turned itself around and was rated ‘good’ in its most recent inspection.

The previous report criticised the Delenty Drive nursery, claiming that children’s concentration and engagement is sometimes disrupted by how staff carry out daily routines.

But in the most recent report, Inspector Donna Birch said: “The management team is enthusiastic and dedicated.”

The nursery provides childcare for 39 children up to the age of four, with 17 members of staff.

Ms Birch said: “Staff have high expectations of children. Children’s independence and self-confidence is very well promoted.

“Children make independent choices as they play, organise their own belongings and help with tasks, such as, serving food, pouring drinks and handing out plates and cutlery.

“Parents comment how much their children enjoy being at the nursery.”

Staff were praised for being ‘warm and caring’ with children and for their focus on continually improving the service.

The report said that children are encouraged to lead a healthy lifestyle by the nursery, which provides nutritious home-cooked meals and physical activities such as music, movement and yoga.

To improve the nursery further, the inspector said that staff must support younger children more sensitively to understand and cope with their own feelings and emotions.

She said that carers should provide more opportunities for children to be able to follow their own thinking and ideas.
