A BELEAGURED junior rugby league team who were transformed into a team who went through a whole season unbeaten have received a grant worth thousands of pounds.

Rylands White Sharks U11s went from being a team who had won only four games in 18 months to winning all 22 of their games in the 2015 season.

And the team will now head to the Rhinos Challenge tournament in Skegness in May thanks to a £2,300 grant.

The money has been used to pay to transport the players to the country’s biggest junior rugby league festival and a new full kit and hoodie for each of the youngsters.

Their coach Alan Delooze won the Sportsperson of the Year at the Warrington Guardian’s Inspiration Awards 2015.

Speaking at the event, he said: “We’ve gone from a team that was regularly getting beat week in week out to a team who believe in themselves and can actually go out, play good rugby league and win games.

“The key is giving the kids confidence in themselves, belief in themselves and just a little bit of coaching.”
