ARMED police descended on Gorse Covert yesterday, Tuesday, following reports of a man carrying a firearm outside a shop.
Cheshire Police have confirmed they received reports at 6.10pm of a man acting suspiciously outside the One Stop Store on Gorse Covert Road.
The reports received by police suggested the man was armed with a firearm.
An armed response team were deployed and it is understood they descended on a house on Flaxley Close.
A 31-year-old man from Warrington was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm in a public place.
One witness described the moment armed police descended on the area as 'unbelievable'.
The man, who has asked not be named, said: "The police helicopter started circling above my house for about 20 minutes which I thought was quite strange.
"I was out the front having a cigarette and a convoy of police cars went passed with their flashing lights on but no sirens.
"There were around six cars and one was unmarked.
"My neighbour told me they had a daughter at either beavers or girl guides and had been told they could not leave because of a police incident.
"You just don't expect this kind of incident to happen here."
