A MOSQUE will open its doors to the community as part of a national initiative to promote a greater understanding of Islam.
Warrington Islamic Association has organised an open day on February 7 for all residents to visit the Islamic centre in Bewsey, on Lockton Lane.
It comes as part of the #VisitMyMosque campaign set up by the Muslim Council of Britain.
Deputy mayor Cllr Faisal Rashid, who regularly prays at the Bewsey building, is encouraging the public to attend.
He said: "I am very pleased to see that this initiative has been taken by the Muslim community in Warrington.
"This will help engage residents and also give an opportunity to everyone to visit the mosque and enjoy a guided tour with some talks and refreshments.
"This is the first time we have really publicised such an event and we hope members of the public attend.
"I am very pleased this has been set up – it will be an opportunity for the wider community and faith groups to visit the mosque to take in the surroundings and speak to people there."
Flyers are being distributed to raise awareness of the event.
Four tours will take place on the day and a similar day is being lined up to take place in autumn.
The event will take place on February 7 from 1pm to 5pm.
