TWO pensioners were targeted by pickpockets in the town centre earlier today.

Police have reported that a large amount of cash was stolen from the pensioner while near to Holy Trinity Church on Sankey Street today, Tuesday.

The victim was having a cup of tea in the church when she has had the money stolen from her trolley.

The offender is described as a white male, 30 to 40 years of age, short dark hair and slight build.

He was wearing a dark green jacket and possibly a scarf.

A second man was also targeted while using an ATM on Buttermarket Street this morning.

Officers have since issued a warning that pickpockets are operating in the area.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "Pickpockets are active in Warrington town centre so please be careful with your purses, wallets and cash and extra careful when withdrawing money.

"We have taken reports that members of the public have had cash taken from them after using ATM machines in the town centre.

"Please be extra careful whilst out shopping and be very aware of your surroundings.
