A GROUP of junior doctors on maternity leave have joined forces with striking doctors to host a basic life support workshop in Lymm.

The session will be held as junior doctors stage a walkout tomorrow over an ongoing dispute surrounding pay and working conditions.

Dr Lisa Wee, 34, of Booth's Lane, Lymm, has organised a taster session along with two of her colleagues – Dr Bernadette Lomas and Dr Kirsty Challen – at Lymm Tennis Club from 10am to 1pm tomorrow, Tuesday.

The senior anaesthetic trainee said: "We are aiming to introduce people to what we mean by basic life support and what skills they might learn if they attend a course.

"There will be demonstrations of practical skills and many people available to answer any questions people may have.

"We are also welcoming those who already have qualifications or skills to talk or practice the skills they already have as it can be very difficult to have the opportunity to maintain your skills.

"The initial response from the public has been overwhelmingly positive and we anticipate a large number of people will attend.

"We are very happy to talk about the ongoing dispute regarding the junior doctors’ contract if people would like any information about this.

"We are very grateful to Heart Start and Lymm Tennis Club for providing resources for this event."

The informal drop-in session is open to all parents and carers.

Dr Wee added: "I felt quite strongly that I wanted to do something for the community.

"I thought it would be a nice idea for people to learn and to try to give them more confidence in a friendly environment."
