WARRINGTON Wolverines came away from their visit to FC United of Manchester with a 1-0 win.

The first half was mostly dominated by FC United who put constant pressure on the Wolverines, working the ball well across the pitch.

The Wolverines stuck at it and were determined not to let their opponents attacking play transfer into goals.

Just before half time it took a Laura Parkinson clearance off the line to keep it goalless.

The second half was much better by the Wolverines who managed to create a few chances with some incisive play.

In the 69th minute their hard work paid off when Sophie Cowle won a free kick in her own half after making a superb challenge to win the ball back for the Wolverines.

Captain Helen Dobson took the free kick quickly, knocking the ball over the top of the FC United defence to put Nic Chatterley in on goal who made no mistake in her finishing.

Chatterley slipped the ball past the FC United keeper into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

Credit to FC United who stepped up after going 1-0 down, determined to get an equaliser and get something out of the game.

But the stubborn Wolverines stayed strong and defended extremely well from front to back to seal the win.

Wolverines travel to Blackpool FC on Sunday in the Argyle Sports Cup.
