Record-breaking amount raised at beer festival

THE organiser of the Burtonwood Beer Festival has vowed to bring back the event next year after raising thousands of pounds for worthwhile causes.

It proved to be a record-breaking year after a total of £2,600 was raised in aid of Abbie's Trust, Willowbrook Hospice and the Burtonwood Community Centre on Green Lane where the festival was held on October 22 and 23.

This was the second time the festival was held in the village after Burtonwood Community Centre manager Andy Carr agreed to bring back the event by popular demand.

Around 500 punters packed into the community centre to enjoy the 32 beers, two lagers and five draft ciders on offer.

Appeal for volunteers ahead of marathon

THE organiser of the Ultra-Marathon has made a plea for volunteers to help make sure the event runs smoothly.

Wayne Drinkwater, aged 35, has called on the people of Warrington to offer a helping hand for the Liverpool to Manchester Ultra.

The event takes place over the Trans-Pennine Trail on Saturday March, 26.

He said: "It has been well received and within two months of going live it has already sold out.

"But I still need volunteers to help with the event checkpoints."
