SAINTS are showing interest in goal-kicking winger or full back Jack Owens, who was released by Widnes Vikings this week.

The 21-year-old Widnesian, a good pal of Saints centre Mark Percival, has been in and around the top flight with Vikings since his debut in 2011.

Despite 87 appearances and 30 tries in five seasons, Vikings said they have a number of options ahead of him for 2016 – the final year of his terms – and have salary cap constraints to meet after investment in new recruits and contract upgrades.

Earlier this week Saints agreed for 24-year-old prop Matthew Haggarty to join Salford Red Devils on a season-long loan so that he can broaden his playing experience.

He originally signed from Dewsbury Rams on a three-year contract in February.

Saints Academy play their last and likely most difficult game of their sixth Australia tour on Saturday at Pepper Stadium against Penrith, who are yet to defeat the red V men in five attempts.

A third tour win in as many games came against Parramatta at the Cabramatta club on day 13, but Saints could not have left it any later as they were watched by former Saints head coach Daniel Anderson, who is director of football at Parramatta.

Trailing 17-16 in the final moments, Jack Unsworth’s sublime short pass put impressive second rower Chris Follin over for the winning try.

Coach Derek Traynor described the victory as one of the best of any tour against a big, committed and well organised Parramatta outfit.
