CYCLISTS and pedestrians should have a cleaner and safer route thanks to the opening of the Westbrook-Dallam greenway.
Opened on September 28, the greenway is just less than a mile long and provides an off-road link between the red bridge roundabout near Asda Westbrook and Sankey Valley for pedestrians, cyclists and mobility scooter users.
The traffic-free zone was built after Warrington Borough Council was awarded with £4.65 million from the Department for Transport’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) in August 2012.
Routes connect to nearby estates and it has been designed to ensure it can be used whatever the weather and to discourage anti-social motorcycle use.
Cllr Hans Mundry, executive board member for highways, transportation and public realm, said: “The greenway will encourage more active travel, contributing to improved public health, reducing car use, traffic levels, air pollution and traffic noise.
“Residents will be able to use it for their daily commute, to access local services and businesses or simply to enjoy a safe and traffic free journey in the attractive open space that has been opened up.”
