A GYMNASTICS club is set to bounce back following fears of closure during winter months due to a lack of heating.

Wire Gymnastics, which is based on Trident Industrial Estate on Birchwood, have been given a boost after the club was awarded funding from a National Lottery pot.

The sports group is just one of 91 projects to benefit from a £10m share with £20,036 being donated to the club.

The money will go towards a heating system so the gym can be used all year round.

Projects from every region in the country are eagerly anticipating their share of the Sport England funding, which will go towards building up and maintaining sports clubs and groups that are helping people to stay active.

Sport England property director Charles Johnston said: “The Inspired Facilities fund has had a huge impact on grassroots sport across the country.

"Since 2011, we’ve invested £102 million into more than 1,920 projects to improve and refurbish sports clubs and transform non-sporting venues into vibrant community sports clubs."

Club head coach, Ema Doherty, said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which will make such a difference to The Club and the experience for all our gymnasts.

"To have heating in the gym will mean we can continue to offer sessions for all, from pre-School to our squad gymnasts all through the year.

"It will also mean we can continue to develop our programme with local schools.

"The investment in a gymnastics pit will mean we can develop new skills and enjoy further success as a Club”

Warrington North MP, Helen Jones, added: “This investment by Sport England into The Wire Gymnastics Club is fantastic news.

"There has always has a strong sporting tradition in the area and this money is an investment in young people for today and for the future; we’ll see top class gymnasts training in top class facilities.”
