THE SWIMMING pool at Woolston Neighbourhood Hub is set to close until March ahead of a £1.1m improvement.

Work to improve the heating system of the pool will begin on Monday November 16, with an estimated completion date of February or March 2016.

The £1.1m investment will be made as the pool is currently seen as being not viable due to its age.

Vicki Dunning, Livewire’s strategic lead for leisure facilities, said: “Livewire are delighted at Warrington Borough Council’s investment and commitment in the town’s health and well-being by investing £1.1m from the capital investment programme into the pool at Woolston Neighbourhood Hub.

“Without the investment the pool’s long term future could not be guaranteed due to its age, and the planned improvement works to the plant room and the swimming pool will improve its heating system and reduce the building’s carbon emissions, giving an improved service to our customers and residents.

“Inevitably with such a major essential investment, the pool will have to close for as short a time as possible given the scale of the work involved.”

Alternative swim sessions at other pools will be offered to existing users while the work takes place.

Cllr Kate Hannon said: “We have ambitious plans to improve the health and well-being of our residents.

“Ensuring that improvements are made to existing facilities is key to this if we are to encourage people to have healthy, happy lifestyles.

“Investment from our capital programme in Woolston hub will make a huge difference to the leisure services available and in turn will have a positive impact on people’s lives.”
