THE council's commitment to pay all of its staff the living wage by next April is moving 'full steam ahead'.
The announcement was made at the budget meeting in March and despite fears over cuts Cllr Russ Bowden, executive member for corporate finance, insists there are no concerns over the move.
"There are no risks to the living wage plans – we made a commitment and will be sticking to that," he said.
"The working group has been meeting and the plans are moving full steam ahead.
"It is crucial that we ensure there are good living standards in place for the people in the town."
Cllr Bowden (LAB – Birchwood) also believes the 'boost' for the town after the living wage introduction will be clear to see.
"It is about identifying what is best for Warrington," he added.
"With the living wage, it is likely that people will also be spending more in the town, which will help the economy here.
"We have the opportunity to become community leaders.
"Other authorities have jumped in and not kept up with it but we will make sure we continue working with our colleagues to get it right."
