A CHARITY has received backing from a national law firm to share eight inspirational stories of young people living with cerebral palsy.

Birchwood-based Brainwave has teamed up with Irwin Mitchell solicitors to mark World Cerebral Palsy Day, which takes place today, by launching an online portal showcasing the stories.

These include Natalie, who has achieved a master’s degree, Nathan, who works as a disability campaigner and spoke to the United Nations about children’s rights, and Isabelle, who learned to speak after learning sign language.

Brainwave has been running since 1982 and aims to help children with disabilities achieve greater independence.

Phil Edge, chief executive at Brainwave, said: “Brainwave helps children living with disabilities to achieve greater independence.

“We are helping children affected by cerebral palsy to improve mobility, communication skills and learning potential through a range of educational and physical therapies.

“Through a commitment to early assessment, best clinical practice and continued innovation Brainwave is demonstrating how far children living with complex needs, such as those with cerebral palsy, can progress and fulfil their potential.”
