WARRINGTON South MP David Mowat has hit out at protestors who spat on journalists during an anti-austerity march in Manchester on Sunday.
Thousands of activists took to the streets to voice their anger at Government policies as the Conservative Party began its annual conference in the city.
But the day was marred by acts of spitting by some, although the protest was largely good-natured.
Mr Mowat praised the police for carrying out a 'fantastic' operation to help escort delegates in and out of the conference.
He added: "It is deplorable that certain activists think it is ok to spit at somebody in a civilised society.
"We will continue to work to secure a better future for the hard working people up and down the country."
