MEMBERS of a national society launched to promote the understanding and appreciation of glass making will hold their next meeting in the town.

This year, the annual general meeting of the Glass Association will take place on Saturday, October 17, at The Pyramid Centre from 9.30am.

Member David Willars said: "During the middle years of the nineteenth century Manchester was the home of the very best quality decorative glass, but all the key individuals and companies could trace their roots back to Warrington.

"Given this Warrington is an appropriate venue as part of the event features a couple of short talks tracing the contribution made by Warrington to the decorative glass movement."

Glass owned by collectors will be on display including a rare black glass winged sphinx made by John Derbyshire from Manchester in 1876.

Warrington Museum will also mount a special feature on the Rostherne Goblet, which was made and engraved during the Victorian era.

Tickets are £30 including lunch for for Glass Association and Glass Circle members.
