IT caused a cake-fuffle after it was left outside the wrong house.

But thanks to the power of Facebook, a kind-hearted resident managed to find rightful owner Lynne Wareing and reunite her with her 65th birthday cake.

Stockton Heath singing teacher Sara Whittaker, of Ackers Road, posted a picture of the cake on Tuesday night on Facebook asking for people to share it in the hope of locating birthday girl Lynne after she found the cake under her porch.

The 27-year-old's post soon went viral and within hours of the story appearing on the Warrington Guardian website on Wednesday morning, Frank and Lynne Wareing, of Chester Road, received a phone call to say their cake had been found.

Frank added: "One of our friends spotted it on Facebook and gave us a call.

"We had been out for a meal with friends for Lynne's birthday on Saturday and managed to leave the cake in the boot of the taxi on the way home."

The couple believe the taxi driver must have left the cake outside Sara's house, which is only around the corner, and thanked him for his 'kind' efforts attempting to return the cake.

Frank added: "We're really pleased to get it back as we had a family birthday party at the weekend and it meant the grandchildren could help her blow the candles out."

Sara said she was delighted she could help.

She added: "I like to bake cakes as a hobby so after I posted it on Facebook I was planning on baking Lynne another one if we couldn't find her in time.

"The whole thing was hilarious and the first time I spoke to Lynne I sang happy birthday down the phone to her.

"It was a close call when I found it whether to eat it but I would have woken up feeling so guilty.

"I'm really glad Lynne has been found."

Bakers at Alison Loves to Bake, who made the original cake, have since contacted the couple to provide a duplicate cake free of charge so Lynne 'doesn't miss out on the cake she never had chance to taste'.
