A LATCHFORD care home has celebrated its first birthday by burying a time capsule packed with photographs and mementoes.

Customers, staff and relatives at Belong Warrington, based on Loushers Lane, joined together to savour the historic moment and looked back on the past year.

They also enjoyed cake, cut by 90-year-old Janet Huxley-Jones, the home's first ever resident, and her daughter Bronwyn Kelly, before the capsule was buried with a helping hand from Alicia White, from the Warrington 1st division Brownies.

The capsule, which will not be unearthed until 2040, was packed with staff and residents' old photographs and mementoes, as well as objects significant to the current year, such as pictures of Queen Elizabeth II, now Britain's longest serving monarch.

Brownies also donated their unit badge, dementia friends badge and poems about what a Belong village stands for.

A short ceremony also took place in Belong's award-winning sensory garden to celebrate the memories made so far.

Afterwards, a party was held in the village bistro, where Belong Warrington's general manager Janine Curwell gave a speech.

"It feels like only yesterday that we first opened our doors, yet the strong sense of community and vibrant village life we have here is remarkable," she said.

"Everyone seems to get along very well and we were delighted to receive 100 per cent overall satisfaction in our recent customer feedback survey.

"Thanks to the carefully planned mix of services, facilities and staff, we look forward to continuing to offer a home for life for years to come."
