100 years ago:
Warrington postal staff held a special event in aid of local prisoners of war with . The event took the form of a whist drive and dance.
A Warrington soldier made a narrow escape from death while in the trenches.
Private Thomas Thompson wounded his foot when 75 trench mortars and aerial torpedoes were sent into his trench and one landed on his foot and exploded.
Private Thompson recovered and returned to duty.
50 years ago
Warrington High School for Girls celebrated being established for 25 years with a silver jubilee attended by 70 guests including former and current teachers and students at the time.
A 12-year-old boy who saved a seven-year-old from drowning in the Great Sankey and St Helens Canal received a certificate from Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society and a cheque for £3. He was also presented with a leather wallet and £2 from the council.
25 years ago
Ken Dodd opened Centre Park business estate in Warrington, a 73-acre development.
Sarah Ferguson, the duchess of York, visited McIntyre in Warrington.
