HMV is re-opening in the Golden Square tomorrow, Thursday – in the same store it closed when the home entertainment giant collapsed in January 2013.

Independent record shop Head, run by Penketh-born Les Whitfield, moved into the unit in September 2013 but lost their deal on the lease after HMV expressed an interest in returning to the town.

Around two and a half years on from its collapse, HMV is said to be making a comeback, rivalling Amazon as the UK's biggest music and DVD retailer.

And the Warrington branch will now also specialise in vinyl records.

Store manager Gavin Taylor, who was previously assistant manager at HMV Chester, said: "We're excited to be returning to Warrington after a few years away, and we've had a lot of positive feedback about our return.

"I feel that customers both old and new will love the new offer, especially our extensive new range of vinyl."

Ian Topping, HMV's chief executive, added: "We would like to thank our many loyal customers in Warrington for their continued enthusiasm and support for the re-opening of their HMV store."

Around 10 full and part time jobs are being created by the store opening. Visit hmvcareers.com
