AN anonymous hacker has vowed to continue taking down Network Warrington's website until a statement is made on why it increased bus fares.

The Warrington resident, known as Grey, claims to have carried out a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) on networkwarrington.com twice in the past month, one lasting around four hours.

A DDoS is described as an attempt to make a server or network unavailable to users.

It is believed that it is usually done by temporarily interrupting or suspending the services of a host connected to the internet.

Grey also claims to have carried out work on the Warrington Collegiate and Warrington Borough Council sites.

But he admits he may halt his actions if residents across the town are given an answer as to why Network Warrington carried out the price hike.

However, if not, he confirmed he is set to continue his 'retaliation' against the organisation.

He said: "They need to make a statement as it is not fair, so many families are struggling and to increase the prices is a joke.

"If they do I will cut it down but it depends on what exactly they say.

"I have been involved in this for eight months but only started to become more public about what I was doing five months ago.

"A group has tried to get me on board with them but I am not going to do that."

Despite his plans, the hacker admits education commitments may have to take priority in the coming months.

The Warrington Guardian has repeatedly submitted requests for a comment to explain or justify the move one year on from a price hike of up to 65 per cent on some tickets.

It is now the fifth week attempts have been made but once again officials have not responded despite increasing anger and frustration from passengers.

One resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, criticised the hacker for 'causing a lot of trouble' and claims to have been personally threatened.

"The hacker is hacking into people's Facebook accounts and causing people nightmares," he said.

"He has threatened to hack my stuff and it is a concern."
