CAREWATCH Warrington has offered ten top tips on caring for those with dementia to coincide with its celebration of National Dementia Carers Day and World Alzheimer’s Month.

The tips have been issued to help carers, particularly those who have had to give up jobs, to change their lives and adapt without specialist training.

Tips include avoiding direct questions, keeping background noise to a minimum, avoiding overhead showers deep water when bathing, reminiscing using photographs, keeping the home clear and well-lit, keeping a balanced diet, taking breaks when possible and seeking help if needed.

National Dementia Carers Day takes place on Sunday September 13 and aims to recognise the carers of 850,000 people in the UK living with the condition – whether they’re professional or relatives caring for loved ones.

Carewatch Warrington manager Ria Lyon said: “Caring for those living with dementia is highly rewarding but can be tough.

“Unfortunately often the outstanding work carried out by thousands of care and support workers every day goes unrecognised.

“National Dementia Carers Day is about applauding the actions of dementia carers, be they professional or personal, who perform vital roles in their local communities.”
