BEN Harrison admits Wolves’ attitude has not been right this season, but insists the squad will be a lot smarter in their approach to the 2016 campaign.

With Grand Final hopes over for another year, Warrington head into Sunday’s home game with Hull FC looking to end a run of four consecutive defeats.

But Harrison is confident Wolves can recover from a disappointing campaign.

“I don’t like to make too many excuses,” explained the 27-year-old.

“Part of it is our attitude hasn’t been right and we’ve almost expected things to go our way. When it hasn’t, we’ve been a bit dumbfounded with stuff.

“We have had a lot of injuries but all teams have so you can’t focus on that.

“We haven’t really had a half-back pairing that’s stayed the same.

“It’s been different combinations, and with new players – like Daryl Clark – coming into the team it's working out how they play and he’s got to fit.

“There are a lot of contributing factors but they shouldn’t be an issue.

“It’s got the better of us this year, but we’ll be a lot more wiser and smarter to our approach next year in dealing with that.”

Harrison, who has played internationally for both Ireland and England, believes Wolves must set the standard in pre-season.

“Obviously we won’t be in the Grand Final,” he added. “Hopefully we’ll be able to get an earlier start and really dig in and get the team bonding.

“With a good pre-season getting to know each other, when it comes to next year, we’ll be starting on the front foot.”

Harrison is confident Wolves have recruited well for next term, but also believes Lee Briers’ under 19s graduates will play a part.

“I’m definitely excited,” he said. “There’s some real quality coming in and we’ve had a taste of it with Chrissy Sandow.

“We’ve been lucky enough to get an early preview of some of his ability. The recruitment has been really good and on top of that there’s going to be younger people – some of the lads that are already here, with the experience of this year – that will put us in good stead.

“They’re lucky that they’ve got Briersy as their coach and he’s brought the first-team environment in with the 19s so it’s not that big a step or gulf when they do come up.

“A lot of the first team are very welcoming anyway, so they slot right in and get involved. They’re not afraid to put their hand up and do the hard graft.”

One new addition is winger Tom Lineham, who could well feature for Wolves’ opponents on Sunday.

“I’ll be glad to be playing alongside him and not have to tackle him,” laughed Harrison. “He’s a big, strong lad and got an awesome physique on him.

“He’s so powerful and quick. Hopefully he’ll be a really good asset for us on the wing with his pace and hopefully we’ll be able to use that to his full ability.

“He might be playing this week, so we’ll get to see it.”

As for Wolves, Harrison says plenty of work has been done since the nilling by Wigan.

“There’s been an air of disappointment with the lads, disappointed with the result, the performance and some of the attitude,” he said.

“Time off has given us time to evaluate and look at it more in-depth than we normally would," he said.

With not having a game we’ve had a lot more time to focus on where we’ve gone wrong and try to deal with that.

“It’s been more attitudinal about where we are, the intensity at what we do things at and pushing each other.

“There’ s an easy option to sit back and say we can’t do anything now, but we’re still playing for pride and want to perform to our best.”
