DRUG offences topped the list of arrests during one of Britain's biggest dance festivals.

Police officers made 76 arrests at Creamfields with 171 crimes reported and 45 cautions issued over the bank holiday weekend.

The offences included thefts, assaults, fraud and robbery.

More than 100 ecstasy tablets destined for Creamfields were seized by police on Friday.

The drugs were hidden in bottles of two-in-one Head and Shoulders shampoo and conditioner after a search was carried out at the VIP entrance.

Two men, aged 26 and 27, were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply but have been released on police bail while investigations continue.

Police were determined to crack down on those trying to smuggle drugs into the festival.

Before the site had even opened, officers arrested a 23-year-old man from Southampton and a 20-year-old man from Hampshire, on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a class B drug following a stop check at the entrance of Creamfields on Wednesday.

Both have since been bailed pending further investigations.

Around 70,000 festival goers descended on Creamfields to enjoy one the festival.

Inspector Stuart Sheer, who has led the planning of the policing of the event said: “This year was the tenth time that the music festival has taken place in Cheshire, and every year the event is getting bigger.

“I would like to take this as an opportunity to thank all of those who attended the event and helped to create such a great atmosphere.

“I would specifically like to thank all of the officers who policed this year’s festival for their continued hard work, along with the officer and staff who have assisted with the planning of this year’s event."

The policing operation started on Friday with the majority of festival goers heading to the site on Friday and Saturday morning.

Ahead of Creamfields, Cheshire Constabulary issued a number of warnings about the strict security that would be in place at the festival.

Surrender bins have been installed near to the entrances for festival goers to dispose of any drugs or weapons.

Anyone who refuses to be searched will be denied entry into the dance festival.
