NO other film has captured the signing phenomenon quite like Pitch Perfect, but one group of signing songstresses had set their sights on conquering the art of a cappella long before the film became a global hit in 2012.

Vocal Infinity formed in September 2010 after a group of friends decided to join forces to combine their passion for singing and love of socialising.

From humble beginnings, the once 10-strong group has gone from strength to strength with 35 members ready to hit the high notes at the drop of a hat.

After just six weeks together, the group took first place at Liverpool Performing Arts Festival and have gone on to perform at venues throughout the north west.

Chris Lines, aged 47, from Latchford, who set up the group with her sister Denise Ireland, aged 50, said: "We just wanted to do something a bit different.

"We first got together in The Rams Head in a little room and it has grown from there

"Over the last five years we have grown in membership. It's been a great journey and it's an exciting time."

Denise, who acts as the musical director for the group, is no stranger to the music scene with almost two decades of experience in a cappella singing and directing.

It is her expertise that has helped the group to grow in confidence and to try to conquer songs from all genres.

Chris added: "The film has brought a cappella music to the forefront and made it more popular.

"There's such a good vibe and you learn different things from different people.

"It is great mix of back ground and ages and everyone is welcome to come along."

The group meet once a week at St John's URC Church Hall on Wilderspool Causeway 8pm to 10pm.

With members ranging from 23 to 72, there are always plenty of stories to share and laughter to be had.

"It's not just about the singing – it's more than that.

"It's all about involving the community and showing people to the health benefits that singing has.

"It makes you feel good and it's a great thing to do on a Thursday night," she added.

To celebrate five years since the group was launched Vocal Infinity are launching Singin' September.

During this month, the group will be opening the doors to their rehearsals to the women of Warrington to come along and experience a cappella.

"If you love Pitch Perfect then this is for you," she said.

"It's running for the whole of September and we will learn a song from Pitch Perfect.

"This is the first time we will be singing the song so it will be new to everyone."
