A FAIRFIELD and Howley councillor has hailed the 'community involvement' on show following last Monday's fundraising evening at St Elphin's Park.

The Friends of St Elphin's Park and Warrington Rotary Club hosted the three-hour event, which included a BBQ, bowls and live music, to raise money for the park's defibrillator fund.

Following the fun, Cllr Tony Higgins (LAB – Fairfield and Howley) confirmed £1900 has been raised so far.

Cllr Higgins took a break from his usual duties to take up the role as chef on the BBQ and served the 80 residents in attendance.

But he was keen to commend Jean Flaherty, secretary of the Friends of St Elphin's park.

"Jean has worked tremendously hard and I really want to thank her for organising such a great event," he said.

"It was a huge success and as always to see so many people turn up was brilliant.

"It is all about community involvement as we have witnessed here and is what we should be encouraging.

"I enjoy what I am doing, especially when I see fantastic events like this."

Cllr Higgins also confirmed he enjoyed his time cooking, so much so he even indulged in a few meaty treats himself.

"It was nice to be on the BBQ cooking the burgers and sausages," he added.

"Everyone seemed to enjoy them and I even had three burgers myself!"
