YOUR Housing Group joined forces with the community last Friday to tackle litter and fly-tipping in Birchwood.

The housing provider's 'impact day', which was put on in partnership with Warrington Borough Council (WBC) and Birchwood Town Council, saw volunteers take to the streets to clean up.

Dealing with litter and fly-tipping costs WBC more than £600,000 a year but Cllr Russ Bowden (LAB – Birchwood), who took part in the three-hour event, is determined to help minimise the problem.

He praised Your Housing for putting on the day, as well as all those in attendance.

"We have had big issues with fly-tipping and dumping litter," he said.

"A lot of residents have been helping and since Friday people have been talking about how we can grow a stronger Warrington.

"I want to work with community groups to continue fighting against this."
