THE chief executive of the council joined Warrington North's MP on a visit to Orford to discuss concerns raised by residents including fly-tipping and unsafe footpaths.

Steven Broomhead and MP Helen Jones toured the streets to see first-hand the extent of the problems last week.

During the walkabout on Quebec Road and Venns Road, the future of Peninsula House, which is set to be sold to a private owner before October, was also discussed.

Mrs Jones said she was pleased Mr Broomhead was on hand to hear the concerns and now awaits action from the council to help improve the lives of residents.

"During the General Election campaign many residents I spoke with on the doorstep raised concerns about issues such as fly-tipping and unsafe footpaths," she added.

"It was important for the council chief executive to witness first-hand these problems and I look forward to hearing how the council plans to address the issues raised."

Chairman of building stronger communities Cllr Tony Higgins (LAB – Fairfield and Howley) has also outlined his desire to tackle day to day issues for those living close to the area.

He said: "I'm passionate about community and I believe that strong communities only exit when residents have full involvement and a say in where they live.

"I'm on many community associations in Fairfield and Howley and they are productive because of the community input so hopefully soon me and my fellow colleague Cllr Peter Carey will be looking to meet residents of the Cabul Close area to actively see if they would like to set up a community group and have a voice in where they live."
