THE Mayor was on hand to cut the ribbon at Vodafone's Golden Square shopping centre store following the creation of four new jobs.

The shop has undergone a refit and now boasts seven till points after three more were brought in to ensure customers enjoy a quicker checkout experience.

Mayor Cllr Geoff Settle (LAB – Poulton North) and mayoress Jean were on hand to officially open the telecommunication firm's town centre base.

Cllr Settle praised Vodafone's 'global standard' store and said he was pleased to see major retailers investing in the town.

He added: "It really is good to see the store reopen after all the hard work and I have to say the store looks really bright, fresh and welcoming.

"It's important Golden Square shopping centre remains a vibrant and welcoming place for people to shop and I like the competition and range of stores on offer to customers.

"I am sure the company and its store will continue to flourish here in Warrington."

Store manager Lee Smith, who moved to Warrington four months ago after managing a Vodafone shop in Huddersfield, believes the renovation is sure to benefit customers.

"The idea is that every Vodafone store anywhere in the world is fitted out to the same specifications and looks the same," he said.

"It means if you go on holiday to Italy, Spain or wherever and find a Vodafone shop it will look just like your one."

Among shoppers at the store was William Felix-Moore, who has been a Vodafone customer 'as long as he can remember'.

He said: "I have always used the Golden Square Vodafone store and have been a customer ever since I first had a mobile phone.

"I enjoy coming here because there is no messing about – if they can't help you they say so, they are honest with you and there is no blagging, which makes a big difference."

The town centre base now employs four staff on full-time contracts and eight on a part-time basis.
