TWO high school pupils have been bringing lights, cameras and action to Warrington Youth Club.

Penketh High pupil Zak Cameron and Great Sankey High pupil Kyle Webster have been working with Nuvvy Sibia from the charity to put on regular film nights for primary school youngsters with disabilities and even organised their own Oscar-themed evening last month.

Both friends said they love organising the club at the Peace Centre in Great Sankey and it 'makes their day' seeing children's smiling faces after the free event.

Zak, aged 13, got involved with Warrington Youth Club in January 2014 after suffering from depression but says it has turned his life around to the point he received a standing ovation for a speech he gave to 200 guests at a charity dinner about how the cause had helped him.

He added: "I have always loved films so when Nuvvy came to see me and mentioned the film club idea I told him that was my passion.

"Super hero films are my favourites and I'm obsessed with Marvel Action films.

"I would like to be an actor when I'm older but in the meantime I just want to see more and more people attending the film club."

Since word of the film club's success has spread, Interfilm has now asked Zak to be a young ambassador which will involve him and Kyle attending three meetings a year at Media City.

Kyle, aged 14, added: "It's been really good fun getting involved with the club and at the Oscars night we organised, a catering company also offered to supply a buffet with hot dogs.

"It's really nice to see it making a difference to the people who attend."

Both teenagers got involved with Warrington Youth Club through the 'Buddy up' programme which is now looking for more volunteers.

The project aims to offer young people with disabilities from across Warrington a 'Buddy' who they can try social activities with that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to access and give them someone different to talk to and spend time with.
