THE Mayor and mayoress have reflected on their first two months in office which has seen them attend more than 80 engagements.

But the hectic schedule is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon for Cllr Geoff Settle (LAB – Poulton North) and Jean.

Last week the pair attended Edge Hill University to applaud graduates from the town as they collected their teaching degrees.

Later in the day they set aside some time to relax as they watched a concert at the Pyramid put on by members of Creative Remedies.

Cllr Settle said: "We have attended over 80 engagements in our first eight busy weeks and one of our favourites was watching the Creative Remedies play about a class of cheeky Liverpudlian school children on a bus journey to a sea side resort – it was very funny and took us all back in time.

"Creative Remedies is a programme of arts activities that aim to improve the health and wellbeing of Warrington residents over the age of 18.

"It is a community art scheme that illustrates perfectly my mayoral charity theme of 'wellbeing of the mind' through art."

The next day the pair had an exclusive viewing of three primary school garden entries from Bruche, Croft and Evelyn Street, as well as a fourth by Penketh High School, in this year's RHS Tatton Flower Show.

All four received high acclaim from the judges and Jean spoke of her pride for those involved.

She said: "I love gardening and it has been great being part of Bruche's journey from the planning stage to the RHS final.

"They chose the theme of Warrington Walking Day and as part of their research we invited the youngsters to the Town Hall for a closer look at the famous Golden Gates.

"What we didn't realise was that they using us as models for their garden mayor and mayoress scarecrows.

"The best news of all is that all four Warrington schools have received high acclaim from the judges for their fantastic work which goes to show that our young learners are a blooming success."

After viewing the entries the Cllr Settle and Jean headed off to the Bridgewater Concert Hall in Manchester to watch their daughter Katie take part in her MSc graduation.

She read international fashion marketing at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Cllr Settle added: "This has been another great week of success for the people of Warrington and we finished it off in style by starting the Rugby Football League 120-year celebratory walk from Wilderspool to Walton Hall, where just over a week ago the world's biggest Disability Awareness Day took place."
