WEEK THAT WAS:

100 years ago: A Scarlet Fever epidemic has resulted in 115 people currently suffering from the disease in Warrington hospital.

50 years ago: 25 lorry drivers from Bewsey were on strike over disputes regarding overtime pay. A Burtonwood Brewery Company spokesperson said a settlement would be reaches so the men can return to work.

25 years ago: Warrington Fire Service came to the rescue of a herd of thirsty Friesian cows in Great Sankey. Mr Harold, from Barrow Hall farm, called the fire brigade after a drought made the 300 cows in the herd became distressed. 250 gallons were pumped to save the cows.

10 years ago: A historic journey marked the closure of the old Warrington bus station. The 40 year old bus was the last to leave the station since it opened in 1979. Warrington Interchange will open in May 2006.
