AROUND 1000 residents braved the rainy conditions to turn out for the Eid family fun day in Chapelford on Sunday.

The day at Dakota Park marked the end of Ramadan and offered a range of activities including henna tattoos, face painting, cricket and climbing.

The four-hour event, which was hosted by the council in partnership with Warrington Islamic Association, attracted residents from across the town throughout the day, including deputy mayor Cllr Faisal Rashid (LAB – Whittle Hall).

Cllr Rashid praised the 'community spirit' on display and is hopeful similar events will be staged in future years.

"The weather was not nice but it all went to plan," he said.

"It was well organised and I am very thankful to the council staff for arranging it.

"It was most pleasing to see everyone there from different religions and faiths having a great time, we are stronger together."
