FIRE crews were called to a car crash involving a lamp post in Great Sankey on Sunday morning.
A Cheshire Fire spokesman said the car had overturned on Lingley Road at 7.40am but the driver had already got out of the car when firefighters arrived.
It is not thought anyone was seriously hurt.
Residents have raised concerns about the safety of the 20mph road after claims there have been five crashes in the last two years.
A Cheshire Police spokesman has confirmed a male has been arrested following the incident.
He was over the drink drive limit and the car was believed stolen.
Officers at the scene have since thanked residents for their assistance and composure during 'an understandably aggravating situation' and returned to the area to check for speeding motorists.
A spokesman added: "This was a positive initiative with a female driver being issued with a speeding ticket and numerous drivers given verbal warnings and advice about their driving.
"On a positive note the vast majority of drivers appeared to be driving appropriately for the conditions and were keeping below the speed limit."
