A LIBRARY is taking part in a Guinness World Record attempt.

An event is being hels at Orford Library on Saturday between 10am and 2pm where children aged four to 12 will be encouraged to sign up to The Summer Reading Challenge.

It is one of the libraries up and down the country holding a ‘pledge’ event simultaneously as the Reading Agency tries to break the world record for the most reading pledges made in one day.

The Summer Reading Challenge is a literacy campaign which encourages primary school children to keep reading throughout the summer holidays where they must read a total of six books by September 6.

Children who finish the challenge by the end of August will be entered into a prize draw to win a tour of The Halliwell Jones Stadium with everyone else being given a medal and certificate for their efforts at a special ceremony in September.

Chris Everett, senior LiveWire advisor for libraries, said: “We hope that as many children as possible will sign up to the challenge and help us break a world record.

"Last year’s challenge was a great success and this year we’re expecting more than 2000 children across Warrington to take part.”
