A WALKWAY has been vandalised again just days after it was repaired.

The footway between Blackburne Close and Woolston Grange Avenue in Woolston was constructed in 2014 to replace the Pink Bridge but has been vandalised repeatedly according to nearby residents.

A petition calling for a solution to the problems has now been launched by Longbarn Residents Association and will be received by the Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Geoff Settle, at the town hall before a meeting which is being held for residents tonight, Thursday.

Cllr Settle said: "Less than a day or so of the replacement panels being put in they have been vandalised. I passed them on Friday afternoon and they were ok.

"The quality is just not fit for purpose and these characters need to be caught and punished.

"I have agreed to receive a petition from the LRA and would like a solution to be found or the vandals caught and prosecuted.

"I will pledge £100 to the Mayor's Charity for providing evidence that lead to a successful prosecution."

The meeting is being held for affected residents at Padgate Village Club on Station Rd South, Longbarn at 7.30pm after handing the petition over at the town hall at 6pm.

Chairman of the LRA, Geoff Orange said: "This obviously cannot continue as someone is intent on ensuring that they cause maximum trouble for the Blackburne Close residents and a solution just has to be found."

The council has said it is taking a number of steps to try and deter vandalism in the area and address residents concerns about road safety.

The petition reads: "We, the undersigned, object to the continued use of the new walkway through from Blackburne Close to Woolston Grange Avenue since the vandalism, carried out over several months.

"Each time it is repaired it is, soon thereafter, vandalised again and we are fearful that the broken pieces of concrete can be used as weapons on our properties.

"There is also a road safety issue with pedestrians crossing Woolston Grange Avenue and climbing over the fence damaging the vegetation and not using the installed toucan crossing.

"The walkway is, also, being used as a quick getaway by robbers who have waiting cars there on Woolston Grange Avenue for their use.

"We request that Warrington Borough Council fill in the walkway and landscape the area so that we are relieved of the worry/nuisance caused by this feature."
