PHEW what a scorcher.

The heat is on and on the streets of Warrington, shoppers and families have been attempting to keep cool on the hottest day of the year.

Temperatures in the town were expected to hit 29 degrees on Wednesday with Darcy Grailey, aged nine, and Mason Roskell, aged 10, among youngsters feeling the heat at Grappenhall Heys.

While at the Plaice Station in Padgate, Karen Bromilow and Dawn Pickering cool down with a shake before the expected rush of customers in the sunshine.

Trains in the town have also been loaded with 26,000 bottles of water for customers with First Trans Pennine Express also promising to hand out ice lollies on some services.
