A HIGH-SCORING win has taken unbeaten Warrington to the summit of Cheshire Cricket League Division Two.

They leapfrogged Bollington, who suffered their first loss of the season, courtesy of a two-wicket win with seven balls to spare at Northwich.

The home side posted 226 for 9, with Sam Shepherd, 78, and Chamindu Ishanka, 66, leading the way while the spin of Brad McIntosh pegged back their bright start before he finished on 6 for 80 from his 19 overs.

Experienced James Hughes’ fine innings of 50 as well as 46 from Will Fleetwood, with the pair sharing a sixth-wicket century stand, steered Warrington home at 229 for 8.

Warrington seconds made it a super Saturday thanks to a six-wicket success against their Grappenhall counterparts at Broad Lane.

Warrington turned the form book on its head as they dismissed Grappenhall for 136, with Phil Whelan claiming 4 for 41 and Simon Hewitt, 3 for 31.

Ian Sleigh, promoted to opening bat, scored 79 not out as he led the charge to victory.

Although Warrington thirds batted well, they fell by three wickets at home to Brooklands.

Tom Highham, 66, and Alister Begg, 63, scored very good half-centuries as Warrington closed their innings on a respectable 220 for 8.

However, Warrington did not bowl well and let Brooklands back in the game.

Tom Corroboy, 3 for 56, and Alan Hitchmough, 2 for 66, tried to stop the flow of runs but the visitors held their nerve to gain a hard-earned victory.

Warrington fourths were all out for 98 as they chased the 165 for 7 established by Irby thirds.

Nathan Jeffery, 3 for 28, was the pick of the bowlers as Irby paced their innings to complete their allotted overs.

Warrington were looking to make inroads at 54 for 0, with Les Connolly, 33, and Paul Dempster, 19, but the runs dried up.
