THE development of 18 affordable homes in Orford by Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT) is nearing completion.

The site, on Howson Road, will be made up of a mix of two and three bedroom homes - each complete with fully-fitted kitchens, as well as a bathroom upstairs and downstairs.

It is one of three new GGHT developments across Warrington, with properties at Howley Quay and in Bewsey and Dallam also on the agenda.

A block of 20 contemporary waterside apartments at Howley Quay will be completed in late summer and development at Bewsey and Dallam's Harrison Square is due to commence in the coming months.

Roy Smith, GGHT chairman, said: "These new family homes represent a first step for the trust in building new homes.

"The houses are in a popular area and will make someone an ideal new home - I look forward to seeing the first tenants move in during August this year."

The Orford development was visited by Cllr John Kerr-Brown (LAB - Poplars and Hulme), Brian Maher (LAB - Poplars and Hulme) and deputy council leader Mike Hannon.

It has been labelled by GGHT as 'an early sign' of the intention to fulfil its goal to develop homes in the town.

The properties are being delivered in partnership with fellow Torus group company Helena Partnerships.

Torus has ambitious plans to build 1,500 new homes over the next five years - nearly 200 of which will be built in Warrington.

Work on the Orford homes, which are aimed to provide an 'ideal location' to nearby schools, shops and supermarkets, started last September
