CHAMPAGNE corks no doubt popped at Summerville Nursing Home in Stockton Heath last Thursday as resident Tana Baker and her husband Harry celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

The happy couple, who met at the Parr Hall and have known each other for 63 years, enjoyed a party with family and friends to mark the occasion.

Harry, who served in the navy during the Second World War in the Far East, and Tana, whose varied career was mainly in nursing, tied the knot at St Barnabus Church on Lovely Lane when Tana was aged 23 and Harry aged 31.

The former telegrapher was involved in communicating with the Japanese forces while they were negotiating their surrender and after the war, worked as a painter and decorator until he retired.

Tana also received a degree in English Literature from Manchester University after retirement.

Harry, aged 91, and Tana, aged 84, have three children and five grandchildren and Harry says the secret to a happy marriage is 'she speaks and I just nod'.
