ROADWORKS near the Lever Brothers factory, which caused lengthy delays for evening rush hour commuters last night, are set to continue today.

Scottish Power started work on the site yesterday, Thursday, to fix a high voltage cable fault with the work scheduled to be completed on Tuesday.

Temporary traffic lights last night led to long delays for motorists queuing to enter and leave the town centre via the Pink Eye roundabout.

But the council has been notified that Scottish Power has a major fault on a cable on Liverpool Road near Unilever.

Milner Street has been closed on an emergency notice to enable traffic to be managed on Liverpool Road by two way lights.

The temporary signals are being manually operated between 7am and 7pm today, Friday, and from 9am to 6pm over the weekend however delays have been experienced throughout the day today.

Scottish Power will continue to work on the fault over the Bank Holiday and it is anticipated that works will be completed on Tuesday.
