VISITORS turned out in force to see what life is like at Cheshire Police.

Thousands flocked to Cheshire Constabulary’s Winsford headquarters earlier this month for the joint emergency services open day.

Held in conjunction with Cheshire Fire and Rescue, the day was a chance for the constabulary and fire and rescue service to showcase their work.

There were displays in the main arena from the Cheshire Fire Cadets, police dogs and the fire investigation dog, as well as a demonstration of how the police and fire services work together in a road traffic collision.

There were also demonstrations of public order officers police dealing with petrol bombings, how police gain access to locked buildings and the fire service’s rope rescue team.

Chief constable Simon Byrne said: “This was my first open day here in Cheshire and, without doubt, it has been a resounding success.

“Personally, it was one of my proudest days of service seeing so many people showing colleagues, families and the public just what a great job we do.”

Paul Hancock, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service chief fire officer, added: “The event was wonderful. It was fantastic to see so many people come along to discover more about what we do.

"I hope everyone had a great time and managed to pick up some information that may help keep them and their families safe in the future.”
