WARRINGTON Music Festival has been called off this year - but will return in 2016.

The July showcase of Warrington bands and guest artists like Happy Mondays and Scouting For Girls has

been a fixture in the town for eight years.

But the team behind the event have announced they are going to 'press pause' on the festival to take stock and make plans for the future.

Steve Oates, one of the organisers, said: "After eight years' growth in popularity and diversity the organisers of the Warrington Music Festival have decided to press pause on the event this year.

"We’re really proud of everything we’ve achieved so far but felt it was time to take a break, reflect on what’s been achieved and consider how we can best build the event in terms of opportunity and popularity for years to come.

"It feels strange not working on the festival this year. Normally May is a real hive of activity, but after considerable deliberation we feel that this is the right thing to do in 2015.

"When we began in 2007 we faced a steep learning curve. We’ve had a lot of fun but a fair amount of challenges along the way it’s true to say.

"I know that many people will be disappointed but we’ve had to consider what is best for the progression of the event.

"There are many dedicated people involved in the planning and management of these concerts and delivery of outreach community workshops. We all have the same drive and desire to improve things whenever possible.

"The good news is, we’re already making the plans for 2016 and are confident that with a few tweaks, and continued support of all our partners, performers, volunteers and funders we can produce the event that everyone wants to see."

Throughout the years Warrington Music Festival has shined the spotlight on the town's rising bands.

Slydigs signed a management contract after they were talent spotted at the event in 2013 and Roughneck Riot were one of 2014's headliners recognising their success touring all over Europe.
