MONEY lost, cards cancelled and new identification ordered – dealing with the aftermath of losing a wallet following a night on the town is common practice for many.

But being reunited with their prized possession is less likely.

Following his Saturday night out on April 18 when he dropped his wallet in the taxi after a journey home to Thelwall, from Manchester, Phil Lyons had his nightmare come true.

With the 23-year-old’s wallet on his lap, as he stood up to leave the vehicle, it unknowingly to him at the time dropped to the floor.

Three days later he was all set to go through the dreaded process of cancelling his cards before arriving home to work with a surprise delivery.

Along with his wallet, was a personal letter from the kind-hearted taxi driver who had met Phil just days earlier.

The note said: "Hi Philip, you left your wallet in my taxi and I found your address on your driving licence.

"As you were a nice person i thought to send your wallet back to you.

"No need to thank me but if you really want to thank me tell all your friends to be well behaved in taxis and be good to all taxi drivers."

With all his cards and £20 note in his wallet, Phil was stunned to have been on the receiving end of the gesture.

"I was shocked – I did not think that I would get it back," said the former Lymm High School pupil.

"I had not cancelled the card, I was just hanging on but was going to cancel it that day.

"I remember the driver a little bit and he seemed nice enough – this is such a nice gesture."

Following the fairytale ending, Phil admits he has taken a key lesson from it all.

"I will not be putting my wallet on my lap again," he added.
