A MAN armed with a knife raided a betting shop in Orford yesterday, Thursday.

A 31-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of carrying out the robbery at 7pm at Betfred on Poplars Avenue.

Police were called to the scene after a man threatened one of the workers with a knife.

But, as he tried to escape with cash, he was stopped by a PCSO.

It is believed the PCSO was assaulted as he tried to stop the suspect but he did not suffer serious injuries.

The man was taken to the custody suite for questioning.

The suspect was later arrested on suspicion of a second offence of robbery after McColls on Greenwood Crescent was raided on April 18.

More to follow.
