ON May 1 we are calling on the town to take a step back in time and #RocBackTheClock to celebrate 30 years of St Rocco's Hospice.

Whether it's slipping on a neon-coloured head band for work, an 80s football shirt or dressing up as icons from the era like Madonna or Michael Jackson, we are hoping lots of you will spread the word about the charity's birthday by using #RocBackTheClock and the donation text details (RBTC80 £1 to 70070) on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Here's eight reasons why you should get involved:

1. You can start the bank holiday early!

Friday is the start of a long weekend so get the cocktail shakers out and make it Pina Coladas (with a tiny umbrella) all round.

Warrington Guardian:

2. Your colleagues will love you when they can tuck into an 80s buffet

Tell everyone to bring in one item and at lunchtime they can get stuck into Pac-Man biscuits, cheese and pineapple on sticks and black forest gateaux

3. It's an excellent excuse to reminisce over some of the great films from the 80s

A Warrington Guardian ballot found Back to the Future was the town's favourite 80s film from a list of some of the highest grossing movies from the era so we will be looking forward to seeing lots of Doc Browns, Marty Mcflys and cardboard hoverboards on May 1.

4. You can challenge your colleagues to a 'Rubik's Cube-off'

Were you the champion of the colourful combination puzzle at school? First one to complete it gets first dibs on the buffet...or first one to get one side the same colour if you were always useless at the brain teaser

5. Or re-create 80s TV favourites Bullseye, Blankety Blank or Blockbusters

Make a donation to St Rocco's for every bullseye or correct answer. But you'll have to find your own speed boat/cheque book and pen prizes. (Sorry!)

Warrington Guardian:

6. You can think of it as a tribute to Mr Smith's

You don't see moves like this any more on Warrington dancefloors

7. And with that in mind it's also a great excuse to play 80s tunes all day

And teach the kids that music used to come on these things called cassette tapes.

Warrington Guardian: TIME RUNNING OUT: But the cassette was once considered the last word in technology

8. And finally, but most importantly of all, it's all for a very worthy cause.

All the care the hospice provides to people in Warrington with life-limiting illness is free but only around a third of funding is provided by the NHS with the rest coming directly from residents' donations meaning every penny counts.
