A BUSINESSMAN has overcome the pain of shin splints to complete his training routine for his first marathon.

Sam Wareing, managing director of Winwick Quay shop Run Geek, is taking on the London Marathon this Sunday in aid of Warrington Hospital-based maternity bereavement charity Harry & Co.

The 27-year-old got to know the charity founders Kate and Chris Tinker through working on Warrington Wolves player Ben Westwood's testimonial committee when Harry & Co was his charity of choice and was keen to do something to help the cause.

The former Priestley College student added: “I am a trustee of Harry & Co and I’m very proud to be raising funds for what is a heartfelt cause."

And once he has recovered, Sam plans to tackle shorter runs dressed as the charity’s mascot Harry Bear to raise even more money.
