STOCKTON Heath's Betfred store has brought 'Downing Street' to town after decking out the shop with less than two weeks to go until the General Election.

The bookmaker decided to bring a 'Downing Street door' and 'police officers' to the shop, which falls in Warrington South, following the national interest to the constituency seat.

Punters have now lumped on more than £15,000 with Betfred, which has its head office in Birchwood, on guessing the outcome of the race for the Warrington South position.

Shortly after the new-look store was unveiled the Warrington Guardian asked 14 customers their thoughts on the election build-up and how they will be voting.

Five confirmed they would be voting Conservative on May 7, while Labour got four votes, followed by three for UKIP and two for the Liberal Democrats.

Stockton Heath resident Ernie Liggett, aged 65, revealed his intention to back Labour but he urged the party to follow its pledge to help young residents.

"The Labour party are always good for the working class and for sorting these taxes, so I will be voting for them," he said.

"Whoever is in charge needs to create more jobs nationally - there should be more work done in getting jobs for young people."

But Dean Newton, aged 65, outlined his decision to back the Conservative party in the election.

"My issues concern the economy - if you get that right get then you get the jobs and profit which makes for a better country," he said.

One Grappenhall resident debating whether to vote for UKIP was 66-year-old Tom Moran.

He said: "David Mowat has done well getting the new bridges in but I am just a bit worried about how things are going and what the Conservatives will be spending money on - UKIP is an alternative."

Store manager Don Smith, who has been involved with the company for 30 years, admitted this year's election has sparked interest like never before.

"Horse racing has alway been big and football is becoming much more popular with younger people but the General Election has got so much interest - people are asking for the odds a lot," he said.

For Warrington South, the bookmaker has priced Labour at 4/11 to win the seat, Conservatives 5/2, UKIP 33/1, Green Party 100/1 and the Liberal Democrats at 100/1.

In Warrington North, Labour is 1/100, Conservatives 25/1, UKIP 33/1 and the Liberal Democrats at 100/1.
